A SOLO ART EXHIBITION BY OGHAGBON EBOIGBODIN MOSES

A new chapter in the Argungu Series is unfolding.

Through painting, observation, and visual storytelling, Oghagbon Eboigbodin Moses continues his exploration of the people, traditions, landscapes, and cultural memory of Argungu Emirate in Kebbi State, Nigeria.

ARGUNGU SERIES 11 brings together a new body of works created in honour of the fishermen of Argungu—their courage, strength, skill, traditions, and enduring connection to the waters that have shaped generations.

The exhibition celebrates the fishermen not only as participants in a historic cultural tradition, but as custodians of heritage whose stories, labour, and way of life deserve to be remembered and preserved for generations to come.

Through these works, the artist invites us to see Argungu through his eyes: its people, its rivers, its traditions, and the living memory carried from one generation to another.

ABOUT ARGUNGU SERIES

The Argungu Series is a cultural documentation and visual storytelling project dedicated to preserving, promoting, and celebrating the rich cultural heritage of the Argungu Emirate in Kebbi State, Nigeria.

The project grew out of the Self-Tour Nigeria Project and from a deep recognition of the importance of documenting the traditions, people, landscapes, festivals, histories, and everyday cultural expressions that define Argungu. It is founded on the belief that meaningful and sustainable development begins with a conscious appreciation of a community's identity, history, and cultural heritage.

Through painting, photography, research, documentation, exhibitions, and other creative forms of visual expression, the Argungu Series seeks to create a lasting visual record of Argungu for present and future generations.

Visual documentation is a powerful form of communication. Images can preserve moments, evoke memories, communicate history, and create connections across generations and cultures. What is documented today can become an important source of knowledge and inspiration tomorrow.

The Argungu Series therefore goes beyond recording events. It seeks to tell stories, preserve memories, encourage cultural pride, and create opportunities for wider appreciation of Argungu's heritage in Nigeria and around the world.

AIMS AND OBJECTIVES

The Argungu Series is committed to the following objectives:

1. DOCUMENTING CULTURAL HERITAGE

To creatively document and present the cultural, traditional, social, historical, and contemporary development of the Argungu Emirate through painting, photography, research, and other forms of visual storytelling.

2. PRESERVING HISTORY FOR FUTURE GENERATIONS

To create a growing visual archive that preserves important people, places, traditions, festivals, landscapes, practices, and stories of Argungu for present and future generations.

3. PROMOTING ARGUNGU TO THE WORLD

To use visual art and cultural documentation to increase local, national, and international awareness of the history, identity, creativity, and cultural significance of the Argungu Emirate.

4. DEVELOPING CULTURAL PUBLICATIONS

To establish periodic publications and digital platforms dedicated to sharing the cultural heritage, stories, artistic expressions, and historical perspectives of Argungu with audiences in Nigeria and beyond.

5. EXHIBITIONS AND CULTURAL PROGRAMMES

To develop exhibitions, competitions, talks, workshops, and other cultural programmes that encourage meaningful engagement with Argungu's history, arts, traditions, and contemporary creative expressions.

6. SUPPORTING CREATIVE TALENT

To identify, encourage, mentor, and support emerging and established creative talents from Argungu and Nigeria, providing opportunities for artists, photographers, researchers, writers, performers, and other cultural practitioners.

7. DEVELOPING A CULTURAL AND CREATIVE CENTRE

To establish a multipurpose cultural and creative centre that can support the long-term objectives of the project. The proposed centre may include:

- Artists' studios and creative workspaces
- Exhibition galleries
- A cultural library and research facility
- Language and cultural learning classrooms
- Accommodation and lodging facilities
- Recreational spaces
- A performance and presentation centre for theatre, drama, music, dance, and other performing arts
- Spaces for local and international cultural exchanges

8. ENCOURAGING CULTURAL EXCHANGE

To promote educational, artistic, and cross-cultural exchange programmes between Argungu, other Nigerian communities, and international partners.

The project also seeks to explore the establishment of an exchange-programme fund or trust to support sustainable cultural and educational partnerships.

9. BUILDING STRATEGIC PARTNERSHIPS

To develop constructive partnerships with government institutions, cultural organisations, educational institutions, corporations, foundations, development organisations, museums, galleries, researchers, and other relevant local and international bodies.

These partnerships will help strengthen cultural research, education, documentation, exhibitions, creative development, and heritage preservation.

10. ADVANCING CULTURAL EDUCATION

To encourage greater understanding and appreciation of Argungu's cultural heritage among young people, students, researchers, visitors, artists, and the wider public.

Through visual storytelling and educational initiatives, the project seeks to make cultural heritage accessible, engaging, and relevant to contemporary audiences.

At its heart, the Argungu Series is committed to representing, encouraging, promoting, and supporting the arts and cultural heritage of Argungu and Nigeria.

Through sustained documentation and creative engagement, the project seeks to contribute to positive public awareness, cultural pride, education, tourism, research, and sustainable social and economic development.
